Skeleton Sea & Volvo Ocean Race - Beach Clean Up In Cape Town.

Skeleton Sea will lead the public in a Beach Clean in Cape Town on Saturday, giving you a chance to participate directly in our campaign to Keep the Oceans Clean!

The Volvo Ocean Race and Skeleton Sea are working together to promote action against the problem of pollution in the oceans and Capetonians can show their support on Saturday.

The Beach Clean will take place at Mouille Point near the Greenpoint Lighthouse on Saturday, December 3 at 1100. The beach is an easy walk from the V&A Waterfront, where the Race Village is located.

The second installment of the 'Keep the Oceans Clean!' series of Beach Cleans coincides with the middle of COP 17 (the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Durban), and will have some interesting, artistic additions to the occasion.

The Sustainable Seas Trust has designated Saturday, December 3rd as SEA Pledge Action Day, and plans to have thousands of people exchanging pledges while participating in fun events.

A Sea Pledge is a "written, spoken or video commitment you can make to increase your handprint (the positive actions you make for the environment) and decrease your footprint (the negative impacts you have on the environment)".

Wavescape, South Africa's biggest surfing and marine forecasting website, is joining forces with the Sustainable Seas Trust to deliver pledges from the surfing community around Cape Town by creating a three metre painting of a coelacanth fish upon which people can make their own personal pledge to the ocean.

The first stop will be Mouille Point for the beach clean, so participants from all over the world can inscribe their own message of ocean conservation.

The Flip Flop Fish will be there to add to the artistic nature of the day, and inspire people to think about their actions and make special pledges.

At each of the 10 Host Ports along the Volvo Ocean Race route, the artist collective Skeleton Sea will be helping to produce a sculpture using materials picked up during the beach clean -- so this is also a chance to contribute to a unique and beautiful work of art.

The Skeleton Sea founders are Luis de Dios, Xandi Kreuzeder and Joao Parrinha.Flip Flop
