Rhino Poachers Caught

Two rhino poachers were arrested in the Kruger National Park (KNP) by a combined SANParks, SANDF and SAPS operation on Friday the 3rd June, 2011, shortly after 2 white rhino were shot and killed and their horns removed in the Nwanedsi area of the KNP.

During the incident one of the suspected poachers was shot and wounded and is currently receiving medical attention in hospital. Two firearms, an AK47 and a .375 heavy calibre hunting rifle, as well as 3 rhino horns, were recovered in the operation.

Buffalo attacks ranger

Johannesburg – An Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife field ranger was gored by a buffalo in the Hluhluwe Game Park in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, paramedics said.

"Circumstances around what transpired are speculative, and it is thought that the man was on patrol when he happened upon the buffalo."

"The animal was allegedly startled and charged at the ranger, striking him on the side as he attempted to flee," Netcare911 said in a statement.

The ranger was in a serious but stable condition in the Netcare Bay Hospital.

Walk with Lions

A local tour company has introduced its ‘Walk with Lions’ tour in a nature reserve north of Pretoria.  The itinerary includes tea or coffee on arrival, a 40-minute talk on lion behaviour, a 40-minute walk with the lions to the reserve’s dam, python display, feeding and interacting with the lion cubs and a light lunch.

Guests will also be able to find out more about these animals, learn why they are at the reserve and why they get taken out for walks.

CAMP Jabulani in Hoedspruit, Limpopo, has launched its ‘Team Tusker’ programme to cater for safari goers under the age of 12.The programme is structured to stimulate and entertain younger guests, thus allowing their parents to enjoy time on their own, particularly during night-time elephant safaris. Children under the age of 10 are allowed on early-morning elephant safaris if their parents accompany them.The activity menu covers spoor identification, tracking, camp and survival basics, orienteering, basic bush cooking, baking and Land Rover orientation. 

Wellness at Bushmans Kloof

 

Bushmans Kloof will now be known as Bushmans Kloof Wilderness and Wellness Retreat.Reflected in the name change are the expansion of its spa facilities and the introduction of ‘innovative and therapeutic’ body and face treatments to the spa menu.The upgraded spa will soon offer six treatment room and a steam chamber with its own signature massage.
